MIOTAS / MYTH
In the summer of 2021, Canada Ireland Foundation invited a group of diverse artists to take over and transform The Corleck.
The historic waterfront property, originally the administrative offices of the Canada Malting Company, had sat neglected and in disrepair for decades. Before the Foundation’s extensive renovation and rehabilitation of the building was able to begin, artists were presented with an opportunity to transform the building’s interior with original murals and immersive installations inspired by miotas (the Gaelic word for myth) and the mythologies of their own cultures. The exhibition, curated by Eli Klein, features work by local Toronto artists along with Doras (Marc O’Brien), an internationally renowned Irish-Canadian artist based in Montreal.
With capacity limitations still in place due to COVID, Canada Ireland Foundation was pleased to welcome more than 3,000 visitors to enjoy and explore the artwork as well as the derelict building.
